February Birthstone - AmethystQuartz appears in almost every type of rock exposed at the earth’s surface – most beach sands are quartz grains mixed with other mineral fragments. The name “amethyst” has Greek origins, coming from “amethusios” which means “not drunken”.

It was believed that an amethyst wearer would never become intoxicated. Amethyst was also thought to be a very healing gem. It was used in the breastplate of the High Priest of Israel, in the British Crown Jewels and in the foundation walls of New Jerusalem.

Amethyst wears well in rings and many quartz gems are inexpensive, especially rose, pale shades and those without color.

Amethyst may be the color of royalty, however, we have beautiful amethyst pieces for every budget.
